ST. ANDREW'S, SYDNEY MINES
Coal mining brought many Lowland Scottish settlers of Presbyterian
faith to Sydney Mines. The first services in the town were conducted
by the Rev. James Fraser of Boularderie. The first inducted minister of St. Andrew's Church was the Rev. Matthew Wilson. The first church building was on Shore Road and is marked by a plaque. The oldest Presbyterian manse in Cape Breton is on adjacent property and is now privately owned. The present church was built in 1906.
