Birch Grove was an early coal mining community.  In 1920, the congregation of Birch Grove
was aligned with Broughton to form one charge. The Broughton Church is no longer in existence. Victoria Church in Birch Grove was built in 1929  and for many years was supplied from St. Paul's in Glace Bay.
